I recently read some advice from Search Engine Journal about how long it takes for SEO changes to actually work.
Here’s what I learned:
- Small updates (like changing page titles or tweaking some text) can start showing results in about a week or two, especially if your site hasn’t had much SEO before.
- Bigger changes across your whole site take a lot longer, since Google needs time to crawl and process everything.
A few important things stood out to me:
- SEO isn’t instant—even simple changes need time to show up in Google.
- It’s important to track what you change and watch how your site does over time.
- Getting feedback from visitors can help you figure out what’s working and what’s not.
- Most of all, be patient. SEO is a long game, not a quick fix.
If you’re just starting out like me, don’t stress if you don’t see results right away. Keep at it, watch your progress, and stay honest about what you’re doing. That’s what I’m focusing on for my own site right now.
