For this experiment, I took one hot topic — the truth about “free phone” promotions from wireless carriers — and published it across three of my websites with different tones, audiences, and SEO angles.
Step 1: Authority Hub
I built the detailed business post on WirelessConsultant.net. This version is long-form, structured with headings, internal links to other business resources, and optimized around the keyphrase “free phone promotions AT&T business.” This is the canonical version that I want Google to rank first.
Step 2: Consumer Summary
Next, I created a shorter, plain-English version on MobileWiseGuy.com. This version targets consumer-friendly keywords like “free phone deals explained.” It links back up to the WirelessConsultant.net post as the authority, while also pointing sideways to GangsterMobile.com. Canonical tag is set to the WirelessConsultant.net post.
Step 3: Bold Watchdog Post
Finally, I pushed an edgy exposé-style piece to GangsterMobile.com. This is written to catch attention and spark engagement on Reddit or social media. It links back to WirelessConsultant.net (authority) and sideways to MobileWiseGuy.com. Again, the canonical points to WirelessConsultant.net.
Cross-Linking Structure
Together, the three posts form a triangle of backlinks:
- WirelessConsultant.net → links out to MobileWiseGuy + GangsterMobile
- MobileWiseGuy.com → links up to WirelessConsultant + sideways to GangsterMobile
- GangsterMobile.com → links up to WirelessConsultant + sideways to MobileWiseGuy
This signals to Google that WirelessConsultant.net is the main authority, while the other two support it with different entry points for different audiences.
Why This Works
- Prevents duplicate content issues by using canonical tags.
- Captures traffic from business, consumer, and watchdog/engagement angles.
- Builds strong interlinking across domains to reinforce the primary site.
- Provides content variety that can be shared on LinkedIn, X, Reddit, and Facebook without reusing the exact same copy.
Next Steps
I’ll monitor rankings for three separate keyphrases tied to the three posts:
- free phone promotions AT&T business (WirelessConsultant.net)
- free phone deals explained (MobileWiseGuy.com)
- free phone scam carriers (GangsterMobile.com)
This experiment should show whether cross-domain posting, when structured with canonical tags and links, strengthens the authority of the main business site while still giving me reach and visibility across consumer and bold commentary platforms.
