Migrating your website
Getting support from your hosting company should not be this difficult. I am migrating my site from WP Engine to Hostgator and it has been a challenge. Listen to what has happened with my migration below.
I was anticipating an email from HostGator once they completed the file deletion process. However, HostGator failed to send me any notification regarding the file deletion. Consequently, I had to check periodically and handle the progression independently. Unfortunately, HostGator was unable to provide me with information about the migration cost. It was only after several days into the process that HostGator updated their website, revealing a migration cost of $149.99. I would have willingly paid this amount if their migration process had been competent.
Moreover, I noticed a $12.99 charge for a domain transfer, which was an error. Despite making two calls and engaging in a 40-minute chat, I have yet to receive a refund for the erroneous $12.99 charge.

My attempt to migrate my website from WP Engine to HostGator proved unsuccessful. Initially, I sought assistance from HostGator to facilitate the migration, but as days passed, my site remained inaccessible. Subsequently, I engaged the services of a web professional who successfully restored my site’s functionality. However, he left the task of completing the migration to me.
Upon attempting to resume the migration process with HostGator, I encountered difficulties, leading me to revert to WP Engine. This decision was influenced by the fact that my site had already been billed for the year, and I would receive a prorated amount once the migration was completed.
For someone without web skills, migrating a WordPress site should not be overly challenging. However, I encountered various issues, including the disappearance of pages, malfunctioning plugins, and a non-functional contact link due to my lack of knowledge.
The primary motivation behind my attempt to switch from WP Engine was the persistent problems with the Elementor plugin’s updates. Although my web professional updated Elementor, I now face an issue where it consistently enters safety mode whenever I try to use it, preventing normal functionality.
Despite these challenges, I am determined to persevere. My website serves as a hobby, and while it doesn’t constitute my primary source of income, I aspire to generate revenue through its continued development.
