I Built Two Websites and a Hybrid Site With ChatGPT Sites: My SEO Test Begins

Two AI-built websites and one hybrid WordPress and ChatGPT website in an SEO experiment

ChatGPT Sites SEO Test • Starting Baseline • August 15, 2026

I started this ChatGPT Sites SEO test by building two complete websites and part of a third website with ChatGPT Sites. The first versions looked more professional than the WordPress pages I normally build, but launching them involved more than asking AI to make a website.

I am not a web developer or an SEO professional. I am a wireless consultant who decided to build and promote my own websites. I started doing this because I was tired of paying people who charged a lot without always delivering what they promised.

Now that AI tools can write, design, troubleshoot, and explain technical steps, I want to find out how much of the website-building process an ordinary business owner can actually complete with AI. This is not a polished success story written after the results are known. It is the beginning of a real experiment.

The three websites in this ChatGPT Sites SEO test

Website Approach Current purpose
SingleMale.net Complete ChatGPT Site A small lifestyle website with practical content for single men.
TheCellularConsultant.com Complete ChatGPT Site A business website presenting my wireless consulting services and generating inquiries.
GangsterMobile.com WordPress and ChatGPT Sites hybrid A wireless-industry site where WordPress remains available for regular publishing while ChatGPT-built pages provide a more polished experience.

The two complete ChatGPT sites are fairly simple. They do not contain hundreds of pages or complicated systems. That made them reasonable tests for someone like me who wanted a professional-looking site without manually designing every section in WordPress.

How long did this ChatGPT Sites SEO test take to set up?

ChatGPT took approximately one hour to produce the initial version of each complete site. I did not sit there writing code. I gave it instructions, supplied the information it needed, answered questions when necessary, and let it work.

The one-hour number only describes the initial AI build.

It does not include connecting the domain, setting up Google Search Console, adding analytics, reviewing the content, dealing with indexing, submitting URLs, or correcting problems after launch.

Connecting a domain took about 10 minutes. Setting up Google Search Console took another 10 to 15 minutes. Reviewing the site, connecting analytics, working on the sitemap and indexing, submitting URLs, and completing the remaining launch tasks took approximately another hour.

My current estimate is therefore about two hours per simple site from the beginning of the ChatGPT build through the first round of launch and search setup. Some later corrections and follow-up work are not included in that estimate.

ChatGPT had to walk me through the technical steps

The website design was not the part that confused me. Connecting the domains was harder because I did not already understand where every DNS setting was controlled.

My domains are registered through GoDaddy, but I had to make changes through GoDaddy for one site and through HostGator for another. HostGator is my hosting company even though I do not consider it the company where I bought my domains.

What I learned is that domain registration, website hosting, and DNS management are related but separate. A domain may be registered at GoDaddy while its nameservers cause the DNS records to be managed somewhere else, such as HostGator. I have not yet documented the exact configuration that caused the difference between these two domains, but ChatGPT walked me through the screens and helped me complete both connections.

This matters because many website-building demonstrations make the process look finished as soon as the design appears. For an amateur, the instructions required after the design are a major part of the value.

The ChatGPT sites look better than my WordPress work

The clearest early advantage is appearance. The sites ChatGPT created look much more professional than the WordPress pages I normally build myself.

My WordPress work can look like it was assembled from a standard template by someone still learning web design—because that is exactly what happened. ChatGPT created stronger layouts, spacing, typography, section flow, and mobile presentation without requiring me to understand the underlying design work.

That does not automatically make the ChatGPT sites better for SEO. It means they created a better visual first impression. Search performance, maintainability, conversions, and long-term control still need to be measured.

Where WordPress still gives me more control

WordPress is familiar. I can sign in, edit a post, publish another article, assign categories and tags, change a featured image, and continue building the site without asking ChatGPT to rebuild a section.

The hybrid setup on GangsterMobile.com may become the most useful comparison. I can keep publishing through WordPress without interfering with the ChatGPT-built portion of the project.

WordPress also creates its own frustrations. For example, I currently want to change how a featured image appears because placing it automatically at the top of a post looks tacky. I would rather place the image inside the article where it supports the content. That change is easy to describe, but it still takes time to implement correctly.

Google indexing problems in my ChatGPT Sites SEO test

Publishing the sites did not mean Google immediately recognized every page. I connected each property to Google Search Console and submitted the available sitemap information and individual URLs.

I recently had to correct indexing issues and resubmit some pages. I eventually reached Google’s daily limit for URL Inspection requests and had to stop until the next day. At this point, I cannot say whether every issue came from ChatGPT Sites, my setup, normal delays with new websites, or a combination of those factors.

The important lesson is that an AI-built website still needs search-engine follow-up. Google explains that requesting a recrawl does not guarantee immediate inclusion and that crawling can take time. A sitemap helps Google discover important URLs, but it also does not guarantee that every submitted page will be crawled or indexed.

Traffic and rankings are too new to judge

Current status: There is not enough search data to claim success or failure.

SingleMale.net and TheCellularConsultant.com are new. GangsterMobile.com was not receiving much search traffic before the hybrid work, and I have not seen a meaningful increase yet.

I have connected Google Analytics and Google Search Console so I can begin collecting evidence. ChatGPT Sites also provides its own basic analytics showing unique visitors and pageviews over time, according to the official OpenAI documentation for ChatGPT Sites.

I am not going to use a few early impressions as proof that ChatGPT Sites improves SEO. This ChatGPT Sites SEO test establishes the starting point. Later updates will show what Google indexed, which pages received impressions and clicks, and whether any traffic turned into a real inquiry.

Site speed and mobile performance still need to be tested

I like how the sites look on a phone, but I have not yet run proper mobile and desktop performance tests. Visual appearance and measured performance are not the same thing.

The next phase of this ChatGPT Sites SEO test will include page-speed testing for all three sites. I want to compare loading speed, mobile usability, and any performance warnings instead of assuming the ChatGPT sites are faster because they look cleaner.

Forms, conversions, leads, and revenue

Forms and conversion tracking also need a closer review. Google Analytics is installed, but traffic reporting alone does not prove that a website works for the business.

For TheCellularConsultant.com, the real test is whether someone contacts me about business wireless service, upgrades, new lines, devices, or business internet. GangsterMobile.com may eventually produce bill-audit inquiries or other opportunities. SingleMale.net has a different audience and will need its own measurement plan.

Right now, none of these sites is old enough for me to make a serious revenue claim. The honest answer is: we will see.

What ChatGPT completed—and what it did not

ChatGPT handled well I still had to handle or approve
Initial layout and visual design Business goals, accuracy, and final decisions
Page structure and responsive presentation Domain and DNS connection
Writing and organizing the first version Google Search Console and analytics setup
Explaining unfamiliar technical steps Indexing checks, URL submissions, and corrections
Making requested design revisions Reviewing content, links, forms, and ongoing results

OpenAI’s own publishing guidance tells site owners to review generated content, links, forms, files, access settings, and interactive behavior before sharing a Site. My experience supports that advice. AI can perform a large amount of the work, but the owner still has to inspect and operate the finished website.

What I will measure next

This case study will continue. My next updates will record:

  1. Which URLs Google has indexed.
  2. Search Console impressions, clicks, click-through rate, and average position.
  3. Google Analytics traffic and visitor behavior.
  4. Mobile and desktop performance results.
  5. How easy each platform is to update.
  6. Form submissions and other conversions.
  7. Problems, limitations, mistakes, and fixes.
  8. Whether any site produces qualified leads or revenue.

My early conclusion

ChatGPT Sites dramatically reduced the amount of design and technical work I had to understand before producing a professional-looking website. For these small sites, the first build took about one hour and the initial post-build setup took about another hour.

That does not mean the sites were completely finished in two hours. Indexing, testing, corrections, content updates, performance measurement, and conversion tracking continue after launch.

The bigger question is no longer whether AI can create a website that looks professional. It can. The question I am testing now is whether an amateur business owner can use AI to build, maintain, rank, and profit from that website over time.

If you are learning Google Search Console along with me, start with my guide on how to read a Google Search Console performance report. I will update this case study as the three websites begin producing enough data to evaluate.
